Two adjacent linemen start on the same down defender while working to a linebacker. Once they control the down defender, one blocker climbs to the linebacker. The scheme decides who climbs and what triggers the release.
If the blocker leaves too early, the down defender can split or escape the block. If he leaves too late, the linebacker can reach the hole untouched.
