Single Wing Counter

Single Wing Wingback Counter starts with the direct-snap tailback showing Power strong, then hands the ball inside to the wingback coming back weak. The strong guard traps the edge and the blocking back leads into the counter lane.

Counter: Traditional Single Wing Wingback Counter without pre-snap motion. The TB carries the snap and fake toward the strong side while the WB leaves on the snap, takes the inside handoff and follows the strong guard back weak.

The call

Weak Eblock out on the weak-side corner or overhang, according to the edge call.
Weak Gblock down on the weak defensive end.
Centerbase or block back on the weak defensive tackle.
Strong Gpull and trap the first defender outside the weak-side down blocks.
Inside Tbase the playside defensive tackle, then chase if he works away.
Outside Ttravel across the formation for the first linebacker in the counter lane.
Strong Ecut off the safety and prevent pursuit from the strong side.
WBleave on the snap, come underneath the Power action, take the inside handoff on the strong side and find the crease back past the center.
BBtravel to the weak-side overhang and lead the counter outside the trap block.
FBcarry the strong-side action long enough to hold the linebackers.
TBtake the direct snap, carry the strong-side fake to the WB and give the inside handoff before continuing the fake.

Run it with

  • PowerThe backfield begins with Power action before the ball comes back away from the overloaded side.
  • SweepSweep widens the defense toward the strong edge; Counter returns underneath that pursuit.
