Trap Block

An offensive line blocking technique where a lineman pulls across the formation to angle-block an unblocked penetrating defensive lineman.
A trap block is an offensive line technique where a front-side defensive lineman (typically a 3-technique or 1-technique tackle) is deliberately left unblocked by the adjacent offensive lineman, inviting him to penetrate across the line of scrimmage.
A backside guard or tackle pulls behind the center and delivers an explosive angle block into the penetrating defender's side, using the defender's own forward momentum to wash him out of the play-side running lane.
A trap block differs from a kick-out block: a kick-out seals an edge defender holding contain, while a trap attacks an interior lineman who has already crossed the line of scrimmage.
