Drive Man

Offense

also: drive blocker · drive

The blocker who supplies movement in a combination block. Drive names his first job; it does not automatically make him the blocker who climbs.

The drive man joins the post man on the down defender and supplies movement without losing the linebacker read. He is often the outside or uncovered blocker, but that is a common combination rule rather than the definition of the word. Drive man also does not mean automatic climber. If the linebacker fills through his path, he may come off; if the linebacker crosses the post man's face, the post man may leave instead.
