Post Man

Offense

also: post blocker · post

The blocker in a combination who prevents the down defender from splitting the double team. Post is a job inside the combo, not another name for the combo.

Post and drive combination block against a 3-technique defensive tackle and Mike linebacker
In this front and flow, the post man (G) strikes the 3-technique defensive tackle (T) head-on to halt penetration and set a firm anchor, allowing the adjacent drive man (T) to bring hip power into the combination before climbing as the Mike linebacker (M) fills over the tackle.

The post man keeps the down defender from penetrating between the two blockers and gives the drive man a surface to move. While the post man prioritizes securing the down defender to anchor the block, release rules remain conditional on scheme and linebacker movement: if the linebacker works across the post man's face or attacks his gap with leverage, the post man climbs while the drive man takes over the down defender.
