Stretch

also: outside zone · wide zone · 28 stretch · 39 stretch

Stretch is the perimeter zone complement to Inside Zone. The offensive line executes lateral reach blocks with 45-degree bucket steps, racing to overcome defenders' initial outside alignment. If the playside tackle reach-blocks and hooks the defensive end inside, the back bounces to the perimeter; if the defender widens to protect his leverage, the tackle washes him into the sideline to open a vertical cutback seam.
