Spread Option Zone Read
Spread Option Zone Read pairs Inside Zone left with a quarterback keep outside the backside end. The line leaves that end unblocked, and his reaction during the mesh decides whether the back gets the ball or the quarterback pulls it.

The call
| Position | Responsibility |
|---|---|
| Q | ride R through the mesh and read the backside end. If the end closes on R, pull and keep outside. If the end stays wide for Q, give the ball. |
| R | cross the quarterback's face, stay connected through the mesh and run inside zone left if Q gives the ball. |
| Q keep | replace the read end and get north once the ball is pulled. This path is live only when the end closes on R. |
| Left tackle | cover the playside end on the zone track. |
| Left guard | work with the center to secure the playside tackle. |
| Center | help secure the playside tackle before one blocker climbs. |
| Right guard | cover the backside tackle. |
| Right tackle | leave the backside end for Q and climb to the backside linebacker. |
